　　本片是多次勇夺广东地区收视冠军的同名千集电视长剧的贺岁电影版。
广州西关康家大院疑似发现古文物遗址，一家人听到政府许诺会作出巨额补偿时，喜出望外。家庭会议上，康嫂（沈殿霞）宣布她拟将补偿金分作四分，自己以及三个儿子阿光（苏志丹）、阿宗（郭昶）和阿耀每人各一，但尚没成家或离婚的那份，暂由她保管。二十年前携带幼子阿祖（余文乐）离开康嫂去香港淘金的康伯（曾志伟）看过新闻，也回到广州欲分一杯羹。紧接，这一家便如炸开了锅：康叔想着不久就有大钱拿，借诸多老街坊的保命钱将家里置换一新；最贪财的阿宗和阿婵（虎艳芬）两夫妻决定拿到钱再离婚；阿光和阿耀虽不视钱如命，但有钱总比没钱好，于是急着带外地女友见家长——因为康嫂规定不准讨外地人做老婆，他们为讨她欢心可谓大费周章；阿祖更要命，他喜欢上的女孩（蒋怡）竟是个山东人与韩国人的混血儿，不但自己很能打，还有个非常能打的老爸（...
