Alan Barillaro谈到本片的创意，说这是他在爱莫利维尔市皮克斯片厂附近的海滩跑步时产生的，当时他看到许多鸟在海面捕食，但不会碰到浪。这个观察让他立刻产生灵感，一部从鸟的视角看世界的短片就此诞生。
